D&AD Poster competition: Submitted Posters

Design Strategy Presentation

Feedback :

Need to put my interests into context.
Where do I see my work ? Where do I want my work to be ? What kind of place do I want to be ?

I should think about why I want to do what I want to do

What I got from watching everyone else's presentation and listening to the feedback:

HAVE A REAL PLAN.

Need a detailed plan of what to do in order to develop myself as a professional

eg. I need to constantly be emailing studios and be in touch with them.
Plan ahead for studio visits and actually allow myself to meet professionals who know what they;re talking about and hopefully inspire me even more.

I really need t define myself more as a design and actually be able to say...this is who I am and this is what I do. At the moment it's still quite unspecific.

talk to people, reach out more to other designers

have a design presence eg. brand myself, have an online portfolio etc. ( do during / before christmas!)

D&AD Poster competition 2

D&AD Poster competition

this is a quick poster brief for the D&AD north lecture thats happening at the beginning of October.

I wanted to create a poster with simple geometric shapes which was inspired by the shape of the D&Ad logo.

From looking at my design context, you'll be able to see the kind of design I was aiming towards.

I didn't want too long on this poster making complicated type design or illustrations so I thought that simply shapes could also be equally effective

At first I wanted to celebrate the fact that GBH is 12 but at the same time I wanted the poster to say that this is for a D&AD lecture.

I was a bit stuck for ideas and themes so I just started design and making shapes

This is what I came up with
'
The yellow representing the D&Ad but it does look this is just the d&Ad logo shape turned into 3D ( kind of )

Revised statements

In this session we chose one statement from our 5 that feels like the most applicable to us as a designer at this point and put that up on the wall. I chose to put

'An image driven investigation into using illustrations and conventional typography with a focus on promotional design'

It was noted that it was quite complicated and I still needed to explain what I meant and therefore the statement couldn't have been that clear.

From the briefing :

In the statements, use words that don't need any more clarification such as traditional, conceptual etc.

Boil the sentence down into the simplest term

This could be seen as your business card ( metaphorically) that you could use to introduce yourself to someone....

this is who I am and this is what I do.

With the help from our workshop group ,I've revised the statement above to

'A typographic and and illustrative investigation into promotional design witha focus on printed media'

Then I personally revised my other statements as well,

"A process driven investigation into sustainability focussing on printing on reused and recycled material"

"An editorial investigation into experimental typography and layout with a focus on sustainable design"

"A message driven investigation into typography and illustration with a focus on design for social responsibility"

" An image driven investigation into branding with a focus on environmentally and socially conscience clients (companies) "
